Run Eastern Promenade Trail to Bayside Trail: 4.4 miles

This run gives you glimpses of the Casco Bay islands via the Eastern Prom, and access to the newly completed Bayside Trail.

As above, take Exchange and Moulton to Commercial Street, but turn left, away from the Casco Bay Bridge.  Follow Commercial past the Casco Bay Lines Ferry Terminal and pick up the Eastern Prom Trail at the corner of India Street. The Eastern Prom Trail takes you along a former railroad bed, past the docks of SailMaine, and out to the East End Beach,  with views of the Casco Bay islands off to your right. A quarter mile detour down the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad tracks provides a sight line to B&M’s brick factory, where baked beans have been made since 1913, and an up-close encounter with a railroad trestle. If you’ve chosen the railroad detour, run back the way you came and return to the Eastern Prom Trail. Turn right up the hill and follow signs to the Bayside Trail. Portland Trails, which holds a 10K Trail to Ale Race/Walk every September, is responsible for this path. Follow Bayside Trail past popular running equipment stores Black Bear Medical and the Maine Running Company, as well as the canine lover’s paradise, Planet Dog. Turn left onto Elm Street. This uphill segment will take you to Monument Square on Congress Street. Take the pedestrian-only pathway, with One City Center on your left.  You’ll come out onto Temple Street, where you’ll head right. From Temple Street, turn left onto Spring Street, which turns into Middle Street, and it’s just one block back to Tommy’s Park.
