Mac + Mattie

Mackenzie—known as Mac—and Mattie met when they were both students at Cheverus High School, but they didn’t become a couple until Mattie graduated college and moved back to Portland, where Mac was a first-year student at the University of Maine School of Law. “Our first date was in December 2009 at Gritty McDuff’s, and we got to know each other taking advantage of all Maine has to offer—snowboarding

at Sugarloaf or Sunday River, walking Pine Point or Higgins Beach, paddleboarding and surfing,” says Mattie. “In August 2010 we took a trip to San Francisco, Napa Valley, and Yosemite National Park where we felt alive, inspired, and connected. I think we would both agree this is where we
fell in love.” On an April 2015 trip to Jamaica, Mattie was taking a photo of a sunset wedding being set up on the beach below the oceanfront balcony of their room. “When I turned around to point this out to Mac he grabbed my hands and dropped down on one knee saying the most touching things about our past and our future together,” she says. “Easiest ‘yes’ of my life.” They were married on Pine Point Beach, followed by a reception at The Landing at Pine Point. “Mac and I both felt an overwhelming amount of love and appreciation that everyone we loved was there to celebrate our love for each other,” says Mattie.

WELCOME PARTY

On the Thursday before the wedding, Mac and Mattie rented the Chebeague Island Inn and threw a “Welcome to Maine Lobster Bake.” “It was so fun having an intimate evening with some of our friends and family before the big day,” says Mattie. “We played corn hole on the front lawn, explored the island, soaked in the sunset and sunrise, and enjoyed each other’s company.”

COLORS

The ocean inspired the couple’s choice of colors for their wedding, including seafoam green for the bridesmaids’ dresses, navy suits for the groomsmen, and a marina blue suit for the groom—all from J. Crew. The rugosa roses that grow along the beach inspired the colors for the centerpieces created by Flora Fauna.

LOCATION

Following their wedding ceremony on the beach, Mac and Mattie’s reception was held at The Landing at Pine Point. “I worked there for two summers during college helping couples plan and execute their weddings,” says Mattie. “My dad is a co-owner of The Landing so choosing it as our venue was a no-brainer for us.”

MUSIC

Mac and Mattie’s first dance together as husband and wife was to “The Shape of Us,” by Ian Britt, played acoustically by Sam Chase of Sam Chase Music—“our very talented friend,” says Mattie. “Some of our favorite memories have to be exchanging our vows on the beach with the sound of the ocean behind us, our first dance together as husband and wife, and dancing the night away with our friends and families.”
